ATTENTION: WinkWorld Readers RE: BOUNCE-BACKS - Check your "Junk" settings. It is normal for school districts to have internet filters which block unknown messages. In addition, teachers often give us only their .edu email. Because of this, we receive bounce-backs from many teachers, who then wonder why they are not receiving this newsletter. I try to find/contact each person who has a bounce-back, but I have limited success. Please contact news@joanwink.com if you would like to supply a 2nd email address. |

Joan's Real World: Prairie Pedagogy
The drought on the prairies has taken a terrible toll on the ranchers. No feed and water means that ranchers are selling their herds. Of course, the consequences are now moving into the small towns. South Dakota relies on property taxes to support schools. If ranchers are in trouble, schools are in trouble. It is tragic to watch towns fade away. Faith is the nearest little town to our ranch; it is 28 miles away. Destroy our farms and the grass will grow in the streets of every city in the country. --William Jennings Bryan, 1896 |
