ATTENTION: WinkWorld Readers RE: BOUNCE-BACKS - Check your "Junk" settings. It is normal for school districts to have internet filters which block unknown messages. In addition, teachers often give us only their .edu email. Because of this, we receive bounce-backs from many teachers, who then wonder why they are not receiving this newsletter. I try to find/contact each person who has a bounce-back, but I have limited success. Please contact news@joanwink.com if you would like to supply a 2nd email address. |
WinkWorld November 2003
Welcome to WinkWorld. I am writing this edition from the Integrated Learning Center (ILC) at the University of Arizona on my dear desert. I am sitting in the shade on an intense purple bench outside in the undergrad patio, which is entirely wireless. This month we will share a few websites and books I have enjoyed this month; a reflection on schools from Dawn, and of course, our Prairie Pedagogy. To our friends in the fires of Southern California, we send you our love and prayers. Scroll to the bottom of this issue of WinkWorld where we have placed a link to our new book, Teaching Passionately: What's Love Got To Do With It? Books and URL's Several MA students are working on family involvement, which has led us to the following resources.
The following website is share by Jim Burke jburke5@ix.netcom.com and Debra Schneider dschneider@cal.berkeley.edu Today in Literature http://www.todayinliterature.com/ With stories about Oscar Wilde and his mother, tales of Elmore Leonard, and P.G. Wodehouse, the Today In Literature Web site will be of great interest and delight to literary aficionados everywhere. From the main page, visitors can read the story of the day, which relates an interesting tale or event of literary import from the historical past. Visitors can also read about stories that recently appeared on the site, and browse through a list of writers as well. Clicking on the names of any of the writers will bring up a number of stories about the selected author, although free registration is required to read the entire piece. Visitors may also want to sign up for the free email newsletter (which can be received daily or weekly), which includes the story of the day, along with a daily literary quote, and a list of relevant events of importance that occurred on that date.
