Hello Friends,

Teachers must be the most generous people in the world, as I am constantly receiving treasures. Thank you. I receive far more than I am able to pass on to others. In this issue of WinkWorld, I am simply sharing things, which have crossed my desk recently. I hope that teachers might find some of these treasures useful, as the school year begins. Help yourself. As most of you know, I post things for teachers first on WinkWorld, and this is followed by Prairie Pedagogy and family news.

Denise of Cyber Connect Techs, has created a new Site Map, which lists the contents of www.JoanWink.com. In addition, Lesa Prine*, created a Table of Contents for the WinkWorld Archive. These two resources hopefully will add accessibility to my web pages. Thanks Denise and Lesa. In addition, Denise, has created all of the graphics and figures, which I am sharing here. Many of these are in draft form and have been submitted to Allyn and Bacon for the national review of a couple of chapters for an educational foundations text, which I'm writing.

The Guided Language Acquisition Design

The Guided Language Acquisition Design ("GLAD") is a model of professional development with proven replicability in more than 120 school sites. Through Project GLAD training, teachers are provided with research, theory, and practical, effective strategies that promote academic language, literacy, academic achievement, and cross-cultural skills. Tied to English language development standards, the model trains teachers to use local district guidelines and curriculum in providing instruction in multi-lingual classrooms. Project GLAD's focus is teachers in multilingual classrooms serving students in kindergarten through grade 8. The project has been used successfully with more than 30,000 English learners nationwide.
