Hello Friends,

This month in WinkWorld, I am sharing a few ideas, which have crossed my desk this month. In addition, I am sharing some materials, which I'm working on for my January foundations class. In addition, we have a glimpse into the literacy development of Garrett, 2, and Wyatt, 11, and I share a bit of prairie life, as I know it.

Featuring My Friends (FmF)
Next month, I will begin a new feature of WinkWorld. Each month I will shine the spotlight on what my friends and colleagues are reading and writing. My purpose in doing this is to encourage FVR, free voluntary reading. In this edition of WinkWorld, I have added just a hint: First, I am sharing the books which family and friends have mentioned to me this week; second, I share the books lying around our house in various states of being read; and third, I made a list of the books scattered around my desk.

For example, in the new category books, which family and friends are reading, I, of course, begin with my grandkids' favorites, and with my friend, Elliot's books of the week. I also asked the rest of my family what they are presently reading: Dawn is reading Julia Alvarez; Bo is reading the two wild animal books; Lisa is having fun with Sisterchicks; and Wink is reading Greenspan. Mary, my friend of 40 years, mentioned Three Cups of Tea to me, and Nancy, another friend of 40 years, talked to me about The Book Thief. Books around the house include any of the books, which I pick up when I sit down, and books around my desk are professional books, which I am reading.

Stay tuned. http://www.joanwink.com/fvr.html
